Troubleshooting
Official fixes for Transport Fever 3 black screens, startup crashes and performance problems.
Start with the quick fixes, then find your symptom below. These solutions summarize the guidance published by Urban Games on the official Known Issues page.

Quick fixes
- For a black screen or missing mouse pointer, press Alt+Enter to switch between fullscreen and windowed mode.
- Start with no mods enabled when diagnosing startup crashes or loading failures.
- Linux requires a supported 64-bit environment. Do not reuse Transport Fever 2 workarounds that manually copy libstdc++ libraries unless specifically instructed for Transport Fever 3.
Common Issues — symptoms and official fixes
Black screen after changing graphics settings
Press Alt+Enter to toggle fullscreen and windowed mode. If the image returns, open graphics settings and select a resolution and display mode supported by your monitor. If the problem persists, restart the game and reset graphics settings.
Freezes on startup with a black screen
Update your graphics driver. If your system has both integrated and dedicated graphics, verify that the game uses the dedicated card. On Windows, check Settings → System → Display → Graphics, or use the NVIDIA App, NVIDIA Control Panel or AMD Software.
Game does not start or crashes while loading, even without mods
Compare your hardware with the minimum system requirements first. Update graphics drivers, fully update the operating system and verify game files through your platform. Start with no mods enabled, disable incompatible mods and check for interference from third-party overlays, monitoring tools or security software.
Game icon in the taskbar but no window visible
On a multi-monitor system, press Win+Shift+Left Arrow or Win+Shift+Right Arrow to move the window between displays. You can also press Alt+Enter to switch to windowed mode.
Game does not start on Linux
Use a supported 64-bit Linux environment. Verify game files, install all system updates, update NVIDIA, AMD or Intel graphics drivers and disable mods. Launch from a terminal to read any missing-library errors. Urban Games explicitly advises against old Transport Fever 2 workarounds that manually copy libstdc++ libraries unless specifically instructed for Transport Fever 3.
Buttons greyed out in the main menu
The game cannot reach the platform or an online service. Check your internet connection, make sure Steam, Epic Games Store or GOG is running and signed into the correct account, and check for a platform outage. Restart both the game and the platform.
No mouse pointer
Press Alt+Enter to toggle fullscreen and windowed mode. If the pointer returns, change the mouse cursor option in the graphics or interface settings. Check whether overlays or remote-desktop software interfere.
Slow gameplay or low frame rate even while paused
If performance remains poor while the simulation is paused, the graphics card is the limiting factor. Reduce resolution, anti-aliasing, shadow quality, texture quality, level of detail and other GPU-intensive effects. Using 1920×1080 instead of 3840×2160 significantly reduces GPU load. On multi-GPU systems, make sure the dedicated card is used.
Raising game speed to 2× or 4× does not speed up the simulation
This indicates a CPU limit. The game continuously simulates vehicles, cities, industries and connections, so the workload grows as the map develops. Many cities, dense networks, large vehicle counts, complex road traffic, numerous industries and large or demanding mods increase that load. Reducing graphics settings does not help this case.
CPU and GPU exceed the minimum, but frame rate is still low
Meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee high frame rates. Check background applications, insufficient system memory, limited VRAM, thermal throttling, power-saving settings (especially on laptops), outdated graphics drivers, very high display resolutions and demanding mods. Mods with unnecessarily high-resolution textures or complex models can also reduce performance.
Known Issues — consoles
These are separate from the Common Issues above. All three affect consoles and are marked all versions. Only the controller softlock has a published workaround: save the game and load it again.
